Lisa Leigh Miller’s powerful journey from abandonment to redemptive freedom showcases the healing grace of God, offering hope for all.
Lisa Leigh Miller
Lisa Leigh Miller is a wife, mother, pastor, Christian speaker, author, musician, and vocalist.
She was sold on the black market in Mexico City at the age of two and eventually rescued by her family with the help of the U.S. Embassy. With no mother and a father who was a career criminal, she faced many challenges, including a childhood riddled with abuse and the loss of her four-year-old daughter.
Lisa’s story testifies to the powerful healing grace of God. He miraculously delivered her and brought her to the other side of tremendous heartache and loneliness. Her ministry is dedicated to sharing her personal testimony telling others what God has done for her He desires to do for them.
Finding Strength in Scripture
When asked about a habit or routine that keeps her healthy as a Christian Leader, Lisa shares how important it is to memorize scripture in our adult lives.
Putting key verses on index cards and placing them on a vanity mirror, in your car, or on your computer where you can see them daily helps to remember the Word of God. Finding scriptures that are relevant to issues you are facing can help bring strength and peace into your day.
The Power of Prayer & Community
Another key habit for Lisa is meeting with individuals and groups for prayer. Lisa has two groups she meets with on a regular basis. One group meets in her home weekly, and the other group meets on a monthly basis. Having that time to soak in the Lord’s presence and agree in prayer with others is something you need to intentionally set aside time for.
From Abandonment to Redemptive Freedom

Lisa’s mother committed suicide when she was only two years old. After her father hitchhiked with her from Chicago to Mexico City he was arrested. Lisa was left abandoned and homeless as a toddler on the streets of Mexico.
After a long process, her grandparents in the States were able to rescue her with the help of the US Embassy. However. This began a new season of molestation and abuse by several family members, each unknown to the other.
As you can imagine, this took a toll on Lisa’s self-esteem and mental health. She carried guilt and was in emotional bondage. With a background in theater, she hid her secrets from family and friends for years.
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.
~Isaiah 61:1
Writing Her Way to Freedom
It was a long time before Lisa was comfortable sharing her whole story. When people would hear parts of Lisa’s story they would often suggest that she write a book because so much of her story was unique. She didn’t think anyone would want to hear her story, especially the whole story.
Then about 4 or 5 years ago the Lord began to impress on her that she did indeed need to write a book. Holy Spirit gave her a shift and began to teach her that it was not her story to tell but His story to tell. His story of rescue, deliverance, redemption, and restoration. ALL the things He did…people needed to know about. It wasn’t about what happened to her but what the Lord did through it.
That realization shifted her whole thought process and she realized God needed to be glorified for what He did for her. There were others who need hope because HE desires to do the same for them. The Lord wanted the story told.
Discovering Healing and Grace
Lisa’s true story of her life, Sold to the Highest Bidder: A Father’s relentless love, was published in 2021.
She creatively expressed the hard facts in a way that those who have experienced similar issues can relate and those who have never had a personal experience of abuse can have a better understanding of the repercussions and why people may behave the way they do.
You may have never experienced any of Lisa’s hardships, but my guess is, you know someone who has. Consider purchasing a copy to gift them as a reminder that there is Hope and Freedom in Jesus.
Women and men alike are reading this powerful book and using it as a tool to share hope with others who feel stuck and hopeless because of past struggles.
Spreading Hope and Healing
Publishing this book has opened up many opportunities for Lisa. She has been invited to speak at multiple churches and events to share her story. Bible Study groups are studying the book together. Many are sharing their copy and purchasing more for friends and family members.
Lisa feels this book was in preparation for the assignment the Lord has given her for the year 2023 which is to host free women’s events across the states. The Trading Floor events offer the story of hope and allow Lisa to be a facilitator in how the Lord wants to set the prisoners and captives free.
It is not your portion to carry the burden and heaviness of past abuse or trauma. There are so many repercussions from traumatic events in life that women carry and they feel it’s just how they have to cope and live the rest of their lives. The Lord doesn’t want us/you to have to contend with these things all of our lives.
Captives and Prisoners – Finding Freedom for ALL
Isaiah 61 says he has been sent to set the prisoners and captives free.
At first thought, you may think these two are one and the same. However, there is a huge difference between captives and prisoners. Captives are innocent. Like someone who has been taken hostage. They didn’t do anything wrong but were taken captive. There are many things that can hold us captive, such as residual effects of abuse, grief from a loss, and even empty nest life. Anytime something has been taken from us and we feel like we just have to learn to deal with it.
Prisoners are in prison because they have done something and are facing the consequences. The choices that we make result in consequences. Committing adultery or having an abortion could make a woman feel like she is in prison because she is “facing the consequences” of that decision. Jesus came to set the Prisoners AND the Captives free. He doesn’t differentiate between the two and He loves them both.

Trading Ashes for Beauty: The Trading Floor Events
During the Trading Floor Events, there is a time of praise & worship, a full message, and special ministry time where each woman will have the chance to walk across “the trading floor”. There is nothing special about this wood-looking mat but what is special is the transformation that women find as they step forward in faith, lay down their burdens, and receive the beautiful truth that the Lord has for them.
Women are trading ashes for beauty, grief for peace, sickness for health, sorrow for joy, resentment for forgiveness, darkness for light, and thoughts of death for eternal life. Those that have been stuck in complacency are being set on fire! Every lie of the enemy is being traded for God’s truth. The answer to every question and struggle is always Jesus.
The shackles are falling off and women are experiencing a Freedom that they never thought was possible!
What the enemy meant for harm. The Lord will use for good!
Preparing Workers for the Harvest
Harvest workers are carrying their own injuries but are still willing to go out onto the Mission Field to do a work for the Lord. Carrying these injuries and burdens has caused them to work at less than full capacity. They are putting others before themselves and believing the Lord will carry them through it (which is not wrong).
It is not the Father’s desire for them to carry those burdens until they reach eternity. He wants to set them free. The workers in the field need to consider seeking freedom so that they can better serve.
To the workers: He sees you and He wants to heal those wounds so that you can help others who are injured and need your service. He sees the head bandages and heart bandages of those who are running out onto the battlefield. You are not operating at “full capacity” The Lord wants to set YOU free so you can be about the Father’s business
