Setting up Your Morning Routine

In episode #11 we are going to talk about why your morning routine matters and how to start your day off right!

Vision for My Morning Routine

I am excited to share with you some of my personal experiences in learning to Start my Day Right!

Later in the month we are going to be talking about Vision planning. But before you get to a place where you can start envisioning things, you really need to be tuned into the Lord and what He has for you right now.

  • What assignment does He have you on?
  • Are you in a place of discerning what’s next?
  • Do you feel called to start something new, but you don’t know what steps to take to get there?

Focusing on Starting your Day right can help you with all of these things.

Having a healthy morning routine focuses you on what is most important, first thing in your day.

My Routine

Most mornings I get up around 5:15 am, fix a cup of coffee, and sit at one of my favorite spots. I have my journal, Bible, colored pens, and usually another book I am reading.

This is my designated quiet time with the Lord. It’s my little morning routine that helps me focus on the most important things first. It keeps me from rushing right into my To-do list and helps me focus on my relationship with the Lord.

I’ve tried to get up early and have my “alone” time for many years now. I’ve been fairly successful during most seasons of my life, but it has looked different over the years. There have been times I’ve not been good at getting up early and I have had some bad days. On those days I recognized that I didn’t start my day off right!

You may not be an early riser, but you can still implement some strategies to “Start Your Day Right”.

Six Reasons Why Your Morning Routine Matters

1. Sets the tone for your day

I don’t know about you but when my morning starts off wrong my whole day is a mess. If I don’t get my quiet time in, everything is just off from that point on. It is important for me to start my day with a little bit of coffee and a whole lotta Jesus. Things just go better when I have my quiet time first thing in the morning. Starting your day with something positive will set the tone for your whole day.

2. Focuses you on what matters most

Matthew 6:33 says “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. When you put the Lord first in your day you are honoring what is most important. Your relationship with Jesus. Starting your day with the Lord can eliminate a lot of worry, stress, and anxiety.

3. Grows your relationship with the Lord

In Matthew 22:37 “Jesus replied, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”…You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”

The more time you spend with Him the more you get to know Him. Just like a relationship with a spouse or friend. When you love someone, you WANT to spend time with them. It’s not a chore, it is a desire. The more time you spend the more your relationship will grow. As you move into a deeper relationship with the Lord you get tuned in to what his plan and purpose is for you. It has been during these times that I have felt the Lord prompt me to do something new or challenge me to get involved in a ministry. I have even made some really big decisions during this time of the day. One month, several years ago, I did a 31-day study during my morning routine. That study led me to make a life altering decision.

4. Gives you space to think

Do you ever feel like you have so much going through your brain that it’s just going to explode? You have tasks to do, ideas you need to pursue, and a full agenda for the day.

A couple of years ago I added this to my morning routine. I allow myself space to think. I used to sit down with my Bible or Devotion and try to stay focused. Well, it never failed – the random thoughts would start pouring in! I would try to push them out and continue on, but it just didn’t work very well.

Now I have a new process to allow myself space to just think about all these random thoughts and get them into a place where I don’t forget anything. It has helped me so much.

5. Increases Productivity

During my morning routine I look at the schedule for my day and make note of tasks that I need to accomplish. Doing this first thing in the morning helps me be more productive and I love being able to check mark those things off my to-do list!

6. Reduces Stress

This entire process reduces my stress level.

  • I have honored the Lord by giving him the first moments of my day
  • I have started off on a positive note.
  • I have allowed myself time to think and plan out my day
  • And I am finding I get more done in my days! And that reduces my stress immensely!

Having a morning routine to Start Your Day Off Right can affect your whole life!
