Naomi Fata

Naomi is a sewing entrepreneur offering the local community bridal alterations and custom slipcovers while teaching sewing as a life skill in the online space. In addition to sewing, Naomi writes “God’s Corner” for her local newspaper. She is passionate about inspiring others to find ways to use their God-given gifts in their circle of influence. She is the author of “Beyond Head Knowledge: Knowing Christ Who Satisfies Our Hearts” and is the creator of two sewing-themed journals. Naomi and her husband reside in upstate New York and homeschool their three children.

A Journey of Faith

As a young lady, Naomi was in a long season of doing due diligence. She was faithful in doing her devotions each morning, however, it was more about practicing religion than developing a relationship.

There came a time when she took Jeremiah 29:13 very seriously. “If you seek me, you will find me with all your heart.” She wondered what it meant to “find God”

This curiosity, lead her down a long journey of learning about the battlefield in the mind and how toxic thinking can affect you. What did it mean to bring every thought into the obedience of Christ?

2 Corinthians 10:5 says “…bringing into captive every thought to the obedience of Christ…” While learning this new strategy, Naomi began to ask “What is the root of these thoughts?” She learned to speak the Word of God over her thoughts and her feelings. The Word is more powerful than fear or insecurity. During this process, she began to experience the power of Christ not just the theology of Christ.

Today, Naomi’s daily routine is not a routine at all. Her daily faithfulness to the Lord is not always at a certain time or at a certain location. She strives to be in constant communication and is aware when something is getting in the way of her truly resting in His presence.

Serving in Sewing

Growing up Naomi’s desire was to be a missionary. She never dreamed she would lose her dad at an early age and struggle to find a job that would help support her family.

Through a series of circumstances, she was unable to finish High School but did complete a year of Bible College. Without a High School diploma or a GED she struggled to find a better job. She was working in a convenience store when God brought a spiritual father into her life. He poured into her weekly and encouraged her to start her own business.

This father figure that the Lord placed into her life at just the right time named her business and ordered business cards for her.

Sewing was the one skill Naomi had that she felt she could do to make a profit while staying home with her children.

The whole sewing thing wasn’t my plan. God showed me this is the one thing you can do if you want to stray home with your kids.

Naomi bases her sewing business on Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters”

For many years she viewed sewing as a stepping stone for the next thing she would do. Until one day, her husband told her he couldn’t see her ever not sewing. She soon realized that she found so much joy in serving others by sewing for them. She realized it truly was a gift that the Lord had given her.

A few years ago, Naomi took her talents into the online space where she began teaching sewing as a life skill. You can find courses and several sewing tutorials on her website.

Beginning to Write…

One day as Naomi was sewing, she was reflecting on the work God had done in her life. He transformed her from religion into a relationship. Then at one point, she met a young lady who reminded her of her 17-year-old self who had a legalistic view of God. She began to feel like God was telling her to write a book. One day she turned on TBN and the speaker was saying, “If God told you to write a book, you better write it!” She was also reading a book and the author was talking about how they got up 15 minutes early each morning to write. Within a 24-hour period, she had a clear direction that she was indeed supposed to write a book!

Naomi published her book, “Beyond Head Knowledge: Knowing Christ Who Satisfies Our Hearts” in 2014. You can read more on her website or purchase on Amazon.

Naomi also writes articles for “God’s Corner”. A column in her local newspaper.

During a phone call with the local newspaper office, inquiring about placing an ad for her sewing business, she felt led to ask if they ever needed writers for their “God’s Corner” column. And that began her journey of submitting weekly articles for the newspaper.

More recently, Naomi has created some sewing-themed journals which are greatly appreciated by her sewing community. It has been a creative way to intertwine sewing with a life in Christ

A Journey of Entrepreneurship

If you are thinking about starting your own business, think of this quote that Naomi shared that her spiritual father used often: “God is really good at starting something from nothing”.

“Owning your own business is such an opportunity to be used by God because we don’t live by the constraints of a boss or time schedule. No one is looking over your shoulder and our time is always our own.

If you feel like God is telling you to slow down, take more time with a client, or pick up the  phone and pray with a friend, you are available to do so.

Having your own business also provides an opportunity to minister to your customers or clients. Naomi shared how her spiritual father served his community by being a locksmith. He was always prepared by carrying books and cards in his van to give to his customers or others that he met.He was never too busy to talk to someone or listen to their story. He was a generous person and was always willing to give to others.

This was exactly how she met him. Naomi worked in a convenience store and he was a regular customer. He came in every week for years pouring into Naomi until she developed trust and confidence in him. He was God’s vessel in the workplace and in the community.
